PALM CITY, Fla. – The Old Dominion men's golf team started off its spring season with a Top-10 finish as the Monarchs took eighth at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate. The three-day tournament was hosted by UNC Greensboro at the par-72 course at Hammock Creek Golf Club.

Sunday's opening round saw the 19-team field battle high winds all day. The Monarchs recorded a 17-over par 305 to start off the Collegiate in 15th place. However, ODU followed that up with a four-over 292 on Monday to climb up to 10th, then shot a one-over 289 to move up another two spots on Tuesday and finish with a 54-hole total of 886 (+22).

Drexel claimed the team title with a one-under 863, the host Spartans were the runners-up at two-over 866, and DePaul rounded out the top three teams with a five-over 869. UNCG's Nick Lyerly recorded a 12-under 204 to earn individual medalist honors. Elon's Matt Doyle and Drexel Drue Nicholas tied for second with scores of 5-under 211.

"After a really tough first round with high winds, which we were not ready for, the team played solidly for the last two rounds," said head coach Murray Rudisill. "It was good to jump from 15th up to an eighth-place finish. Jakob Henriksson had a Top-10 finish and Aleksander Bjorge played really well for his first college event as a starter."

A junior from Stockholm, Sweden, Henriksson shot a two-over 74 for his first trip around the course. On Monday, he converted four birdies on the front nine to move into a tie for fourth. Henriksson then capped off the Collegiate with a final round of 73 to tie for ninth with an even 216. For Bjorge, the Alesund, Norway native entered the final day tied for 32nd after rounds of 74 and 75. The freshman saved his best round for last, though. With two birdies on the front nine and another five on the back nine, including four in a row, his two-under 70 allowed him to tie for 15th.

Jacob Chicoyne's final tally of 10-over 226 tied him for 50th. Jacob Gunther was three strokes behind Chicoyne and tied for 70th at 13-over 229, and Philip Minnehan rounded out ODU's lineup with a 23-over 239 to tie for 104th.

Henriksson tied for second in par-4 scoring with an average of 3.90 and recorded the lone eagle for the Monarchs, making his second shot on the par-4 16th hole in the first round. Bjorge led the team with 13 birdies while Henriksson had the team-high in pars with 37.

The Monarchs have a couple weeks off before their next tournament, the Dorado Beach Collegiate on Feb. 26-28 in Puerto Rico. UNCG is hosting the three-day tournament at TPC Dorado Beach.
