NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced its first Men's Tennis Player of the Week award on Wednesday afternoon and Old Dominion sophomore Codie van Schalkwyk was honored by the league.
Van Schalkwyk, a Windhoek, Namibia native, went 3-1 in the opening matches of the season winning at line three over Presbyterian (6-1, 6-0), line two over Georgetown (6-3, 6-3) and line one over Drexel (6-4, 6-3). In doubles, teaming with Jakob Cadonau, he had wins over Presbyterian at line two (6-1) and Penn also at line two (6-3).
The Monarchs return to the home courts this weekend with a 6 p.m. match against Virginia Tech inside the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. They'll close the weekend with an 11 a.m. match on Sunday against Wisconsin.
