NORFOLK, Va. -- Coming off a pair of 4-3 wins last weekend, the Old Dominion men's team will hit the road on Saturday to tangle with a pair of teams in Philadelphia.

ODU will first take on the Penn Quakers at 9:30 a.m., then will head three minutes across town to take on the Drexel Dragons approximately at 2 p.m.

The Monarchs opened their 2023 schedule last Sunday with a pair of matches inside the Folks-Stevens Tennis Center as they dispatched Presbyterian and Georgetown by 4-3 counts. In singles, Codie van Schalkwyk and Jakob Cadonau won both their matches, while Yanis Moundir and Nicola Vidal won their only singles match of the day.

Penn has a doubles tandem of Edoardo Graziani and Kevin Zhu who are ranked seventh nationally. In singles, Graziani is currently ranked 48th, while Harsh Parikh is 102nd. The Quakers took a 4-3 win in Norfolk over ODU last season.

Drexel will also open its spring slate with the Monarchs. These teams last met in the 2007, as members of the CAA, with ODU winning 6-0.

The Monarchs return home next weekend for a pair of matches as they'll host in-state rival Virginia Tech on January 27 at 6 p.m. They'll follow that with a Sunday morning match against Wisconsin on January 29 at 11 a.m.

ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller On The Weekend In Philly
Penn is coming off their best season in program history and returning almost their entire line up from last year. I think they are a legit Top 25 team and these are those types of matches we want to put our players through. Being on the road early in the season will also help us down the road.

Drexel has some nice depth and I think they will make some noise in the CAA this year. We have a lot of great players and I'm happy these two matches allows them to get match play in early in the season.
