NORFOLK, Va. – Head Coach Alan Dawson and the Old Dominion men's soccer program announced their 2022 schedule on Tuesday with a 15-match slate that has seven teams who appeared in the 2021 NCAA Tournament on it.
This may be overall our most competitive schedule in many years, and we will have to rise to the challenge," Dawson said. "Early out of conference games include instate rivals VCU, W&M, as well as our home opener with George Mason. "Sun Belt Conference play heats up in late September and we open the home slate versus longtime rival JMU. October brings a demanding stretch in conference play and an exciting trip to College Park to take on Maryland."
Following an exhibition run that will see the Monarchs host UNC Greensboro, Richard Bland and visit UNC Wilmington, ODU will open the season hosting George Mason on Friday, Aug. 26. Two days later they'll host American on Sunday, Aug. 28.
September begins on the road as ODU visits Loyola (MD) on Friday, Sept. 3. The Monarchs return home for a pair of matchups hosting Campbell on Friday, Sept. 9 and then William & Mary comes down Interstate-64 to tangle with the Monarchs on Tuesday, September 13.
The Sun Belt Conference opener for the Monarchs is at Georgia Southern on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Monarchs step out of conference to travel to VCU on Tuesday, Sept. 20 before the Sun Belt home opener against JMU on the 25th.
ODU visits College Park, Md. to tangle with the Maryland in its final non-conference match on Friday, Sept. 30, but return to conference play when West Virginia comes to Norfolk on Saturday, Oct. 8.
The Monarchs are back on the road to face Marshall on Saturday, Oct. 15 before heading back to Norfolk to host South Carolina on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
Two straight road games await ODU as they head to Coastal Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 23 and Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Georgia State comes to Norfolk for the regular-season finale on Tuesday, Nov. 1. This will be the fourth meeting and first since 2012 between ODU and the Panthers.
The Sun Belt Conference tournament begins with the quarterfinals on November 6, the semifinals on November 9 and the finals on November 13.
