PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Playing in challenging conditions in Tuesday's second round, the Old Dominion women's golf team took a step back in the team standings but saw senior Jana Melichova remain in contention for individual medalist honors.

"We held it together until the last few holes," head coach Mallory Kane said. "The wind was tough, and we hit too many balls into the water. Hopefully, we can learn from today and play better tomorrow. It would be great to see all five players play their best in the final round."

The Monarchs posted a second-round score of 33-over-par 321 at the PGA National Championship Course to drop into sixth place with a two-day total of 628 (+52).

Melichova was just 1-over after 13 holes but carded three-straight bogeys on holes 14 through 16 to finish at 4-over 76. The native of Pikovice, Czech Republic sits alone in third place at 5-over 149 – one shot behind Ana Gonzalez of UTSA in second place and six strokes off leader Letizia Bagnoli of Florida Atlantic.

For the tournament, Melichova ranks second in par-5 scoring (-2), is tied for fifth in par-4 scoring (+6) and is tied for seventh in par-3 scoring (+1). Her 26 pars rank second among the field of 60 individuals.

Federica Torre matched Melichova's 76 for the team's low round of the day. Torre birdied two holes on Tuesday, including the par-3 17th to rise 22 spots into a tie for 14th at 157 (+13)

Elsie Verhoeven shot 84 in the second round and is tied for 29th at 161. Leah Onosato (166, 46th) and Pilar Muguruza (172, 53rd) round out the Monarchs.
