About ODU
The Monarchs reached the second round of the WNIT a year ago as the team finished the 2021-22 season 24-10 overall, 12-6 against Conference USA opponents and earn statement wins over Power 5 programs in Auburn and Texas Tech. ODU capped off its C-USA tenure with Iggy Allen and Ajah Wayne named to the All-Conference First Team and Allen adding a First Team All-VaSID nod.

Expectations are high for the team as they enter a new era as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. The Monarchs were picked to finish second in the league's Preseason Coaches' Poll with one first-place vote and 166 total points.

ODU returns six players from last year's squad, to include three-year starter Amari Young and forward Brianna Jackson. Young represented the Monarchs on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Third Team after averaging 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 steal last season. Jackson played a key role on defense for ODU as she led the team with 49 blocks. She was also third on the team with 177 boards (5.2 per game) and was fourth in scoring with 7.3 points per contest. Other returners include Kaye Clark, Taleah Washington, Kaylen Nelson and Joy Campbell.

The Monarchs also have eight newcomers this year. Makayla Dickens, a graduate transfer from Boston College, has reunited with her former Princess Anne High School teammate in Jackson. In 30 games for the Eagles in 2021-22, she was second on the team in three-pointers made (52), assists per game (2.8) and three-point field goal percentage (.354) and was fourth on the team in scoring (9.2). That effort led to an ACC Sixth Man of the Year nomination.

Also joining the team this season are guards Althea Kara Angeles, Jordan McLaughlin and Autumn Dodd, forwards Jatyjia Jones and Brenda Fontana, and centers Jada Duckett and Mikayla Brown.

About Florida Gulf Coast
After capturing the 2022 ASUN Championship with a 69-54 win over Jacksonville State, the Eagles secured a 12th seed in the NCAA Tournament. FGCU then upset fifth-seeded Virginia Tech 84-81 before bowing out of the tournament with an 89-65 loss to fourth-seeded Maryland. The loss snapped FGCU's NCAA-leading 30-game win streak as the Eagles finished the season 30-3 overall and 15-1 in conference play. The Eagles were one of only two teams to record five 30-plus win seasons over the last eight years, the other team being South Carolina.

Entering this season, the Eagles have been ranked second in CollegeInsider.com's Women's Mid Major Top 25 poll. FGCU was also picked to repeat in the ASUN Preseason Poll with 13 out 14 first-place votes.

Tishara Morehouse was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year watch list in addition to being tabbed the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year. She was the third leading scorer in the ASUN with 14.7 points a game. Morehouse was the only Eagle who started and played in all 32 games recording 956 minutes on the court. During the nine games that were missed by FGCU's leading scorer Kierstan Bell, Morehouse increased her productivity to 18.3 points per game with 4.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists leading the Eagles to an 8-1 mark in that stretch.

Also returning for the Eagles are Maddie Antenucci, Kierra Adams, Seneca Hackley, Milan Schimmel, Emma List and Brylee Bartram.

FGCU has a number of transfers in Kaela Webb, Alyza Winston, Sophia Stiles, Shekina Guthrie, Sha Carter and Uju Ezeudu. The team's freshmen class includes Cerina Rolle and Jordan Campbell.
