NEW YORK – The Old Dominion Field Hockey coaching staff was named coaches of the year. Marlon de Bruijne was named Offensive Player of the Year and Cam MacGillivray was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year the conference announced Thursday morning.
Delphine Le Jeune joins de Bruijne and MacGillivray on the BIG EAST first team while Frederique Zandbergen made second team all-BIG EAST.
ODU's 14 wins this year is the best for head coach Andrew Griffiths and staff in his time as the head coach for the Monarchs.
de Bruijne leads the conference in goals (14), points (34), goals per game (.93), shots (79) and shots per game (5.27) and gaming winning goals (3).
Le Jeune follows de Bruijne in the league for goals (11), goals per game (.73) and is tied for game winning goals (3).
MacGillivray leads the conference in goals against average (.87) and save percentage (.835).
Zandbergen is second in the conference with 13 assists and .87 assists per game. She also ranks sixth in points with 21.
"I am thrilled for the recognition that Marlon and Cam have received. And I also know that these individual honors truly represent the work that each of our players and staff have put in over the past year, since a disappointing end to last season. Many people have contributed in different ways to get us to this point. And we are focused ahead to get more done," said head coach Andrew Griffiths.
The Monarchs take on Temple Friday, Nov. 4 in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
