Volleyball to Face App State This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion volleyball is back home this Friday and Saturday as the Monarchs host App State for a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches at the ODU Volleyball Center. Friday's meeting will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available for both contests.
 
ODU and App State have met once before, a 3-1 victory for the Monarchs on Sept. 3 last season at the Mountaineers' Black & Gold Challenge in Boone, North Carolina. Myah Conway led the team with 13 kills and Hailey Duncan and Alessia Sgherza contributed 10 kills each. On defense, the Monarchs recorded 14 blocks, paced by Duncan with seven and Olivia De Jesus with five.
 
App State currently sits in fourth place and ODU is fifth in the Sun Belt East Division standings heading into this weekend.

About ODU
The Monarchs (8-13, 3-5 Sun Belt) were in Lafayette, Louisiana last week and came up short against the Ragin' Cajuns, 3-1 and 3-0. ODU outdueled Louisiana in the first set of Friday's match, 27-25. However, the hosts claimed the next three 25-17, 25-20 and 25-23. ODU then fell in straight sets on Saturday.
 
Conway has a team-high 246 kills, Ashley Peroe is second with 132 and Bailey Burgess has 125. Teresa Atilano owns 608 assists and continues to lead ODU's serving with 32 aces. Jamie Bissmeyer enters the series with 225 digs, Anna Burkhardt is up to 137 and Atilano is close behind her with 122. At the net, Burgess is the team's top blocker with 75. Conway has made 62 blocks and Duncan 57.
 
As a team, the Monarchs are averaging 11.5 kills, 10.6 assists, 1.6 aces, 12.4 digs and 2.3 blocks per set.
 
About App State
The Mountaineers (13-8, 6-4 Sun Belt) pushed their win streak to six after a pair of 3-0 wins over Marshall last week in Boone. Lulu Ambrose led the Black and Gold in both matches as she scored 11 kills last Friday and 12 on Saturday. Alyssa McBean finished with 12 digs in each match, Sophie Cain reached 19 assists in the first meeting with The Herd, and Sam Bickley contributed 18 assists in the second match.
 
McCall Denny and Ambrose lead the Mountaineers with 234 and 207 kills, respectively. Cain and Bickley have split time at the setter position as the duo has combined for 843 assists. Denny and teammate Maya Winterhoff have served 26 aces each, Kenady Roper is the team leader in digs with 244, and Winterhoff adds 76 blocks to her season totals.
 
App State leads the SBC with 142 aces and ranks fourth in opponent hitting percentage at .185. The Mountaineers are averaging 12.0 kills, 11.2 assists, 1.7 aces, 14.1 digs and 2.0 blocks per set.
 
Up Next
ODU will make its final road trip of the regular season next weekend when the team heads down to Atlanta for a conference meeting with Georgia State. The Monarchs and Panthers will play at 6 p.m. on Friday and again at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The series will mark the first meeting between the two programs.
