Boston, MA – The Old Dominion Women's Rowing team competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday. They participated in the Women's Collegiate 4+ and the Women's Collegiate 8+.

In the Women's Collegiate 4+, ODU had one boat participate. The coxswain of the boat was Libby Guindon while the rest of the boat was filled by Annika Gromek, Sofia Bespalova, Kinley Zink, and Bell Cooke. The boat placed 10th in the event with a time of 18:54.508.

In the Women's Collegiate 8+, the Monarchs had one boat participate and they placed 20th out of 39 boats coming in with a time of 17:20.633. The boat's coxswain was Illianna Romanzo and the rest of the boat was made up of Sydnee Blackburn, Gabby Cook, Kaylee Logan, Katherine Hemsworth, Annemarie Hoff, Lucy Brennan, Maddie Enns, and Jenna Protacio

"Today is a great day to be a Monarch! Our goals coming into this regatta were to be in the top 50% of each event we entered and guarantee our entries for next year.  We were clear about how we needed to do that and required the team to change a lot from Navy Day. When a team achieves the goal 100% and then some it tells the story that ODU rowing is coming. Our Club 8+ entry, made a lot of changes this week in our mindset and how we attacked practice.  They finished 20th out of 40 teams. Gabby Cook did a great job being gritty all the down the course leading the boat," said head coach Brian Conley.  "Both of our coxswains, Libby Guindon (Club 4+) and Ilianna Romanzo (Club 8+) steered near perfect courses while passing a number of boats down the course. Our club 4+ had the most impressive turn around with having lost to Temple last week by a large margin to reversing that result and placing 11th out of 53 boats.  Seeing the bend in their oars as they came around the last turn you just knew they were doing everything they could. I'm excited how we turn last week into a learning moment and then executed what we worked on this weekend.  It just means bright things for the future of the team."

Old Dominion is back in action Sunday, Oct. 30 when they will take place in the Head of the Lafayette Regatta.
