VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Despite poor weather in the area throughout the weekend, the Old Dominion women's golf team was able to get all three rounds of the Evie Odom Invitational in as the Monarchs finished 11th on Sunday at the Princess Anne Country Club.

"It was good to see the team play well today and shoot under par," said head coach Mallory Kane. "We look forward to getting back to practice next week and preparing for Mississippi State."

College of Charleston combined for a three-over par 843 to win the tournament, Minnesota was the runner up with a five-over 845, and South Florida took third with a 12-over 852. The Gophers made a significant jump in the standings on the final day thanks to a 17-under par 263, which marked a course team record.

Tough wind conditions on Thursday led to the Monarchs opening their home tournament with a 25-over 305, tying them for ninth. The team then recorded an eight-over 288 on Saturday to drop to 12th before firing a one-under 279 on Sunday to move up one spot. ODU finished at 32-over with a three-round total of 872.

Charleston's Emma Schimpf carded three rounds under par to secure individual medalist honors with a nine-under 201. She held off Minnesota's Mariana Mesones by two strokes, who shot a seven-under 203 to place second. Mesones set a new course record, as well as a program record, on Sunday with a final round of 62 (-8). She tallied eight birdies for her final trip around the course, to include five on the back nine.

Leah Onosato was the top finisher for ODU, tying for 22nd with a six-over 216. Lucia Gonzalez, Minami Kudo and Federica Torre all tied for 37th with scores of nine-over 219. Kudo turned in the team's best round of the Invitational on Sunday. The Hachinohe, Japan native made four putts for birdie to card a four-under 66 for her final 18 holes. Klara Wildhaber's 19-over 229 tied her for 72nd, and Pilar Muguruza came in 81st with a total of 246.

Gonzalez recorded one eagle and Torre led the Monarchs in pars with 37.

"Thank you to Evie Odom for her support this week," added Kane. "We love the opportunity to play in front of so many of our friends and family. The golf staff at the Princess Anne Country Club were exceptional this weekend. If it wasn't for all their help and hard work, this wouldn't have been possible.

ODU rounds out its fall slate at The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State at the Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Mississippi on Oct. 17-18.
