NORFOLK, VA. – The No. 14 Old Dominion Field Hockey team (10-2, 4-1) extended their win streak to five with a dominating 7-0 win over Providence on Friday. Aubrey Mytych and Sacha De Gier each scored two goals in the victory as the Monarchs had five different goal scorers in the win.

Providence started out the game fast putting three shots on goal in the first 90 seconds of the match. ODU answered with four shots of their own but could not find the back of the net.

In the second quarter De Gier got the Monarchs on the board with a rebound goal just 30 seconds into the second quarter. Evelyn Murray then extended that lead when Frederique Zandbergen assisted her on a penalty corner that she smashed into the goal. Old Dominion went into the half leading 2-0 and outshooting Providence 8-3.

De Gier would add another goal just one minute into the third quarter on a deflection. Two minutes later Marlon de Bruijne assisted Delphine Le Jeune on a penalty corner to give ODU a 4-0 advantage. The Monarchs weren't done there as de Bruijne stole the ball from a defender, turned and fired a missile into the back of the net.

In the fourth quarter Mytych scored her two goals, her first came when Le Jeune and Nicole Fredricks aided her for the goal. Mytych's second goal was when Murray came up the side and passed it into her who stopped the ball, turned and fired it into the goal. That was the final goal and put the game way out of reach.

"I was really happy with the way we played, we moved the ball well and defended tougher than we have. We were able to defend across the field well which took away a lot of their opportunities after the first 90 seconds," said Head Coach Andrew Griffiths. "A positive for us now that we have settled into the season is we are getting goals from more people. I feel like Rina Tsioles played her best game of the season I think it's a good sign that we are able to be hitting this type of performance at this point of the season."

Old Dominion outshot Providence 22-4. The Friars only got off one shot after the first three they had in the first quarter.

ODU is back in action Sunday, Oct. 16 at 12 p.m. to take on Queens at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
