NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion volleyball resumes Sun Belt conference play this weekend as the Monarchs welcome Coastal Carolina to the ODU Volleyball Center. Friday's match will be streamed on ESPN+ and is set for a 6:30 p.m. start. The teams then meet again at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The series marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

About ODU
The Monarchs (7-8, 2-2 SBC) were on the wrong end of a pair of 3-0 conference matches last Friday and Saturday at James Madison. ODU had a strong effort at the net in the first match versus the Dukes, tallying 13 blocks to JMU's 11. Hailey Duncan and Bailey Burgess finished with six each while Ashley Peroe and Myah Conway both had four. Burgess added another six blocks the following day, Conway had four and Tessa Mati contributed three blocks with eight digs.
 
Conway continues to lead ODU with 177 kills, Peroe is next with 110, and Mati and Burgess follow with 101 and 100 kills, respectively. Teresa Atilano is two assists shy from 500 for the season, needs another 23 to reach 2,000 for her career, and ranks fourth in the Sun Belt with 27 service aces. Also owning double-digit aces are Jamie Bissmeyer (15), Burgess (14) and Ashlynn Belcher (10). Burgess leads ODU's blocking effort with 61, Conway has tallied 54 and Duncan 46. On the back row, Bissmeyer enters the weekend with 213 digs and Atilano is second on the team with 106.
 
As a team, the Monarchs currently rank fourth in the league with 1.69 aces per set.
 
About Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers (14-5, 6-0 SBC) hosted Georgia Southern last Friday and Saturday. After taking the series opener 3-1, they completed the sweep of the Eagles with a 3-2 victory on Saturday. Coastal jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the decisive set. The visitors were able to close the gap at 12-10, but the Chants held on 15-11 to win the match.
 
Paulina Perez Rosas is the primary hitter for CCU with 181 kills. Ella Saada is next at 150 kills and Agata Lesiak is third with 132. Primary server Brigitta Petrenko is up to 634 assists and has served 34 aces. On defense, nine different players have recorded double-digit blocks, led by Christina Nance with 59. Lina Perugini comes into the series with 313 digs, Petrenko owns 191 and Perez Rosas has 156.
 
CCU ranks 18th in the country in opponent hitting percentage (.162) and is 33rd in team total blocks (170). Petrenko ranks 14th nationally in service aces and 39th in aces per set (0.49).

ODU is back on the road next Thursday and Friday as the Monarchs travel to Lafayette, Louisiana to play the Ragin' Cajuns. Both matches at Earl K. Long Gym are scheduled for 7 p.m. first serves.
