NORFOLK, Va. – Head coach of the Old Dominion baseball team Chris Finwood announced today the complete schedule for the upcoming 2022 season. On tap for the Monarchs are 55 regular season games, 34 contests at the Bud Metheny Baseball Stadium and an April 26 clash with Virginia at Harbor Park. ODU opens the season on Friday, Feb. 18 against Iona.

"We are very excited to announce our 2022 schedule," Finwood said. "We feel like we are playing a very challenging non-conference schedule with games against NCAA participants Virginia, East Carolina, VCU and Campbell. We are also playing perennial conference champs in Bryant, Binghamton and Stony Brook, and they will all be very good. The C-USA schedule will be very difficult with matchups versus Florida Atlantic and NCAA participants LA Tech and Charlotte at home and Southern Miss on the road."

The Monarchs are coming off one of the finest seasons in program history. ODU went 44-16, won its first ever Conference USA championship and received a No. 1 seed at an NCAA Regional for the first time before finishing the year ranked 16th in the nation.

ODU plays 15 of its first 16 games at the Bud, including three-game weekend series with Iona (Feb. 18-20), Binghamton (Feb. 25-27), Bryant (March 4-6) and Stony Brook (March 11-13) as well as midweek contests with Princeton (March 8 and 9) and East Carolina (March 15). The Pirates won 44 games in 2021, hosted an NCAA Regional and advanced to the Nashville Super Regional.

Old Dominion's lone road game in the opening stretch comes on March 1 at VCU. The Rams went 38-16 last season with a 20-3 mark at home, won the Atlantic 10 Tournament and reached the NCAA Regionals.

The Monarchs begin Conference USA play on the road at Middle Tennessee March 18-20 before five straight at home. ODU sandwiches a conference series with Charlotte (March 25-27) with midweek tilts against VMI (March 22) and Campbell (March 29). Both Charlotte and Campbell participated in NCAA Regionals in 2021.

ODU turns the calendar to April with a C-USA series at FIU April 1-3 before facing East Carolina once again on April 5 in Greenville, North Carolina. Old Dominion then hosts UTSA (April 8-10). After that, the Monarchs take to Charlottesville on April 12 for the first of two games this season with Virginia. The Monarchs and Cavaliers met twice in the Columbia Regional last season with UVA winning both to advance to the Super Regionals.

The Monarchs' road swing continues with three games at UAB April 14-16 and a midweek contest with William & Mary on April 19. Then, ODU plays the next seven at home with C-USA series against Florida Atlantic (April 22-24) and LA Tech (April 29-May 1) and the April 26 date with Virginia at Harbor Park for the Commonwealth Classic.

ODU will be playing its seventh game at Harbor Park. The Monarchs first played at the home of the Norfolk Tides in 2012, when they defeated Norfolk State. Old Dominion and Virginia have played three games at Harbor Park with the Monarchs going 2-1, including an 8-1 win over the top-ranked Cavaliers in 2014. In all, ODU is 4-2 all-time at the venue.

Old Dominion then travels to Southern Miss for three games May 6-8 before hosting VCU on May 10 and William & Mary on May 11. ODU closes out the home portion of its schedule against Marshall May 13-15. After that, the Monarchs play at VMI on May 17 and at WKU May 19-21 to conclude the regular season.

The Conference USA Championship runs May 25 through May 29 at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

"This may be as challenging an overall schedule as we have played, and we will have to play very well," Finwood said. "With a veteran ballclub, we will be ready for this type of a challenge. We hope our fans will show up and support our boys. It should be an exciting team to watch."
