NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion volleyball's Teresa Atilano has been named the Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. This marks the second weekly honor of her career after Atilano was named Conference USA Setter of the Week on Sept. 20 last season.
A native of San Diego, California, Atilano finished ODU's conference-opening series versus Marshall with 84 assists, nine kills, four service aces, 17 digs, three blocks and 14.5 points. Her effort on the court also helped the Monarchs (7-8, 2-0 Sun Belt) to a league-best .320 hitting percentage for the week.
In Thursday's league opener against The Herd, she set a new season high with 52 assists and added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. Atilano also scored three kills, served two aces and recorded three blocks to help the team secure a 3-1 victory over Marshall.
Friday's meeting with The Herd saw Atilano reach 32 assists in a straight-set victory for the Monarchs. She swung for a season-best .857 clip and tallied six kills, two aces and seven digs.
She currently ranks 29th in the nation and fourth in the conference with 25 service aces. Atilano is also approaching a career milestone as she needs 65 assists to reach 2,000 in her time as a Monarch.
ODU is on the road this weekend as the team travels to Statesboro, Georgia for a Sun Belt tilt with Georgia Southern. Friday's match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and the teams will play again at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.
