Field Hockey Hosts JMU In Home Opener Friday

NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 19th ranked Old Dominion Field Hockey team will welcome James Madison to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Friday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m., for the first home game of the season before traveling to American University to play on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m.
 
Friday's game will be streamed on Monarch Media, while Sunday's game will air on ESPN+. 
 
The Monarchs are coming off a 3-2 victory at 14th Ranked Boston College on Sunday. Marlon de Bruijne led the way for the Monarchs scoring two goals late to help the Monarchs secure the win. Cam MacGillivary was strong for ODU making 11 saves, tying her career high and also earning her BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. Frederique Zandbergen leads the team in points this season (5) and assists (3).
 
James Madison will travel to Norfolk with a 2-0 record with wins over Richmond (3-1) and Bucknell (6-2). JMU is led by Diede Remijnse in goals (4). Kara McClure leads the Dukes in assists (5).
  
The Monarchs and Dukes last met in 2021, when ODU defeated JMU 3-2 in Harrisonburg. James Madison is coached by Christy Morgan, who helped lead Old Dominion to three National Championships (1982, 83, 84). and was also named a three time All-American.

American welcomes Old Dominion with a 1-1 record defeating Central Michigan (4-0) and losing to Michigan State (3-1). The Eagles leading goal scorer is Federica Turina Dellamaggiore (3). American will welcome Delaware on Friday before then playing host to the Monarchs, ODU and American last met in 2021 when Old Dominion defeated the Eagles 3-2 in Norfolk.
