NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team opens their 2022 season this weekend with a pair of road contests.
On Friday at 5 p.m., the Monarchs head up Interstate 64 to Williamsburg for a matchup against the Tribe of William & Mary. Two days later, they'll be in Chestnut Hill, Mass., for a 3 p.m. encounter with the Boston College Eagles.
Old Dominion (13-5 in 2021) returns five starters from last season including a pair of preseason All-BIG EAST Conference honorees in Marlon De Bruijne and Delphine Le Jeune. The Monarchs were picked third in the BIG EAST preseason poll and 19th nationally in the Penn Monto/NFHCA preseason poll.
In field hockey program history, ODU has won national nine titles and have appeared in 31 tournaments. The Monarchs have won 32 conference championships.
William & Mary (3-13 in 2021) had two players picked preseason All-CAA in Tabby Billingham and Pyper Freedman as the team was picked fourth in the preseason poll. Last year the Monarchs took a 2-1 win in Norfolk.
Boston College (12-6 in 2021) was ranked 14th in the Penn Monto/NFHCA rankings and was picked third in the preseason ACC poll. Senior forward Margo Carlin was selected to the preseason All-ACC team. This will be the second-ever meeting between the Monarchs and the Eagles with ODU winning in 1988.
