DALLAS – Jana Melichova earned the third All-Conference USA honor of her career and Federica Torre received her first All-C-USA honor the league office announced on Monday.
Melichova led ODU with a 72.20 stroke average this season and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament as an individual. A native of Pikovice, Czech Republic, Melichova delivered eight top-10 tournament finishes on the year, including placing in a tie for third at the C-USA Championships. In her ODU career, Melichova placed in the top-10 at all three C-USA Championships she competed in. The all-conference honor is the third of her career but her first time receiving first-team honors. She earned third team in 2021 and second-team accolades in 2019 along with C-USA Freshman of the Year.
Tomorrow, Melichova will compete in a U.S. Women's Open qualifying tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Melichova begins her round at 8:40 a.m. The event is 36 holes of stroke play, all on Tuesday. The top three advance to the U.S. Women's Open and the next two are alternates.
A transfer from Gonzaga, Torre finished second on the squad with a 74.40 stroke average. Torre, a native of Ronco Scrivia, Italy, won the fall Badger Invitational and delivered three top-10 finishes on the year. One of the top-10's was a tie for eighth place at the C-USA Championships.
Melichova will continue her season next week at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional, as she tees off on Monday, May 9 at 10:50 a.m.
