BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Old Dominion women's golf team completed the first 36 holes of the Indiana Invitational on Saturday and sits in sixth place in the final tournament of the regular season. Jana Melichova led a Monarch turnaround in the second round with a 3-under-par score of 69.
 
The Monarchs carded a team total of 298 (+10) in the afternoon, a 14-stroke improvement from the morning round. ODU is sixth at 34-over 610 and is only one shot behind fifth-placed Minnesota and two strokes off Augusta in fourth place.
 
Melichova balanced four birdies against one bogey in the second round to help undo her opening-round 78 at the par-72, 6,133-yard Pfau Course. The senior from Pikovice, Czech Republic tops the field in par-3 scoring (-2) and is tied for sixth on the leaderboard at 147 (+3).
 
Federica Torre posted back-to-back 75s and is tied for 14th at 150 (+6). Elsie Verhoeven shot 80-78 on Saturday and is tied for 35th at 158. Pilar Muguruza is just one shot behind Verhoeven in a tie for 41st.
 
Leah Onosato saw a nine-shot improvement in the second round and is tied for 46th at 161. Sarah Busey rounds out the Monarchs at this play-six, count-four event at 168 (T61).
 
Old Dominion was the second-best team on the par-3 holes on Saturday, shooting a collective 5-over. The Monarchs' 112 pars are third-most in the field.
 
Wisconsin and 18th-ranked Michigan are tied for first in the team standings at 585 (+9). No. 43-ranked Purdue is in a distant third at 25-over 601.
 
No. 15-ranked Ashley Lau of Michigan fired a 5-under 67 in the opening round and currently leads the field by five strokes with a 36-hole score of 140 (-4). Three golfers are tied for second at 1-over.
 
The final round of the Indiana Invitational begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
