NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Jeff Jones and the Old Dominion men's basketball program announced on Friday the signing of Ben Stanley as part of the 2022 recruiting class. Stanley, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound forward from Baltimore, joins Old Dominion after two years at Xavier and starting his collegiate career at Hampton.
"We are extremely excited to have Ben Stanley join the Old Dominion Family. His maturity, work ethic and leadership will allow Ben to make an immediate impact on our program," said Jones.
Stanley played two years at Xavier where he fought through injuries and scored a season-best 12 points in 12 minutes of action against Seton Hall in the 2020-21 season. He saw action in nine games this season recording five points and five rebounds in his first game back from an ACL injury against Norfolk State on November 17.
At Hampton, he was a 2019-20 First Team All-Big South selection averaging 22 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He finished the year eighth nationally in scoring average. Stanley had 12 games of at least 25 points scored with a career high of 40 points to go with 11 rebounds against Howard. He was selected to the 2020 Big South All-Tournament Team and to the BoxToRow Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) All-America Team. Stanley had eight double-doubles and grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds twice.
"First, I would like to say 'all glory to God.' I chose ODU because it is close to my family and I have a lot of trust in the coaching staff to put me and my teammates in the best position to win on and off the court," Stanley said. "ODU has a great program and I am excited to get better and help win a Sun Belt Conference title, God willing."
