TEXARKANA, Ark. – Gustav Fransson carded six total birdies in Wednesday's final round to surge to a top-five finish at the Conference USA Championship. Fransson signed off on a 2-under-par round of 70 to finish the 54-hole tournament with a score of 214 (-2).
Fransson's first birdie of the day came on his first hole of the day, the par-4 10th, but he was soon 1-over following a double bogey on the 13th. The senior rebounded with back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes before adding three more in a five-hole stretch. Fransson's final birdie moved him to 4-under and just two shots off the lead, but he finished out with back-to-back bogeys.
Fransson tied with Marshall's Tyler Jones for fifth – the third top-five at the C-USA Championship for the Swede. He was one shot behind Hunter Bott of UTSA for fourth place.
Jakob Henriksson closed out the tournament just as he started with a 4-over score of 76 and finished tied for 33rd at 222 (+6). Rasmus Konradsson continued to improve his score round-over-round with a score of 73 (+1) on Wednesday. He finished tied for 51st at 227.
Jakob Chicoyne tied for 57th at 231 behind a final-round 77. Kazuki Yamauchi returned to the Monarchs' lineup and shot 74.
Michael Barnard of Middle Tennessee posted a third consecutive 70 to win the individual championship at 6-under 210, edging out Max Sturdza of Florida Atlantic by a single shot. Michael Rome of UTSA completed the top-three at 212.
Florida Atlantic (859, -5), Southern Miss (860, -4), UTSA (868, +4) and No. 28 Charlotte (870, +6) all qualified for match play. The semifinals and finals will be contested on Thursday.
