TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Old Dominion men's golf team saw a six-stroke improvement in the second round of the Conference USA Championship at the par-72, 6,969-yard Texarkana Country Club. Jakob Henriksson posted the Monarchs' round of the tournament, firing a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday.
Henriksson logged five total birdies in the second round to become the first ODU player with a round under par at the conference championship. After a par on the 10th to start his day, the sophomore from Stockholm, Sweden birdied the next three holes to move to 3-under. Henriksson finished off the back nine with a bogey. He posted another birdie on the fourth but immediately followed with bogey. After two more pars, Henriksson notched a birdie on the eighth hole to get back to 3-under before one final bogey on the ninth. He is now tied for 27th at 2-over 146.
Gustav Fransson posted a second consecutive 72 to end the day in a tie for 15th at even-par 144. Fransson bogeyed the 15th and 16th holes before getting back to even par with an eagle on the short 291-yard par-4 17th. He then balanced two birdies with two bogeys on the front nine.
Rasmus Konradsson shot 76 on Tuesday and is tied for 55th at 154. Jakob Chicoyne joined Konradsson in a tie for 55th following a second-round 78. Mason McCoy, the alternate who was substituted in before the second round, fired an 80 to round out the Monarchs.
Old Dominion jumped over Marshall into 12th place at 22-over 598. The Monarchs carded a score of 296 (+8) on Tuesday.
Florida Atlantic retained control of the top spot on the team leaderboard with a 2-under-par round of 286. The Owls are 9-under after two rounds, five shots ahead of Southern Miss. UTSA remains in third place at 1-over 577.
Behind the low round of the tournament, LA Tech's James Swash vaulted up the individual leaderboard into first place at 8-under 136. Swash shot 6-under 66 on Tuesday and is two shots ahead of Max Sturdza of Florida Atlantic and Marshall's Tyler Jones.
The final round of stroke play at the C-USA Championship begins tomorrow morning.
