TEXARKANA, Ark. – Senior Gustav Fransson of the Old Dominion men's golf team fired an opening-round score of even-par 72 to get the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship underway at the par-72, 6,969-yard Texarkana Country Club.
Starting on the back nine, Fransson carded back-to-back bogeys on his first two holes but bounced back with a birdie on the par-5 12th hole. The native of Umea, Sweden would stay at 1-over until a second birdie on the par-5 seventh. Fransson sits in a tie for 17th after Monday's opening round.
Jakob Henriksson and Jakob Chicoyne both fired 4-over 76s and are tied for 50th. Rasmus Konradsson shot a 78 and is tied for 59th. Kazuki Yamauchi rounded out the Monarchs with an 80 and a share of 62nd.
Florida Atlantic opened with a 7-under 281 to top the team leaderboard. Rice is three shots behind in second. UTSA carded a 3-under 285 to complete the top-three.
Marshall's Tyler Jones leads the individual competition following a first-round 67 (-5). Max Sturdza of FAU is one shot behind in second place with three players tied for third at 3-under.
The C-USA Championship continues tomorrow with the second round. The Monarchs are teeing off at 9:50 a.m. ET alongside LA Tech and Marshall.
