No. 33-ranked Women's Tennis Sweeps UAB In C-USA Quarterfinals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The 33rd-ranked Old Dominion Women's Tennis team opened Conference USA Tournament action on Friday morning with a 4-0 win over eighth-seeded UAB at the Adams Tennis Complex.
 
In doubles, the Monarchs got wins at the one and three spots in the lineup to take the team point. Alexandra Viktorovich and Sofia Johnson started off with a 6-2 win over Enya Ratkic and Vanessa Mellynchuk at the number three spot.
 
At the top, the 10th-ranked tandem of Yuliia Starodubtseva and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya recorded a 6-3 win over Sydney Clarke and Maggie White to take the win and clinch the team point.
 
Singles saw Starodubtseva, now ranked 17th nationally, open the run with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Adela Wasserbauerova to give ODU a 2-0 lead. Alesya Yakubovich followed by recording a 6-4, 6-2 win at number five over Jana Heckling for a 3-0 advantage.
 
The clincher for the Monarchs was provided by Shahar Biran at number six as she finished off Annalisa Smith 6-3, 6-2 for the 4-0 win. ODU was ahead in two of the remaining three matches, with the third even at one set apiece.
 
ODU (18-6) now advances to the semifinals where they'll face fourth-seeded Rice at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
