Men's Tennis Starts Final Week Of Regular Season Thursday At VCU

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team will start its final week of the regular season on Thursday with a trip up Interstate 64 to Richmond for a 10 a.m. start against the VCU Rams.
 
Old Dominion (12-7) has been off since a 4-2 loss to 45th-ranked Charlotte on April 2. The Monarchs are led by Luca Maldoner in the spring with an 11-4 singles record, while Younes Lalami is 10-7. In doubles, the tandem of Lalami and Oliver Nolan lead this spring with six wins. Maldoner and Yevhen Sirous, along with Codie van Schalkwyk and Francois Le Tallec have five wins each. Le Tallec and van Schalkwyk are 5-0 at number three.
 
In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings announced on Wednesday, the Monarchs came in at 64th in the team ranking, while Le Tallec moved up 28 spots to 57th in singles.  He and Nicola Vidal entered the doubles rankings at 75th.
 
VCU (16-6) has won nine matches in a row after knocking off 69th-ranked Liberty 6-1 on Sunday. Matisse Bobichon leads the Rams this spring with a 16-3 singles mark, while Inigo Torre Martin follows him at 14-5 mainly at number three. In doubles, the Rams are topped by Charles and Maxence Bertimon with a 14-5 record.
 
The Rams moved up seven spots in the just released ITA team rankings to 29th, while Charles Bertimon entered the singles rankings at 105th.  The Bertimon brothers are still ranked 30th to lead the Rams in doubles.
 
ODU will close its regular season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start against William & Mary for Senior Day.
