Women’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Chattanooga Classic

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Old Dominion women's golf team shot a final round score of 299 to finish in ninth place at the Chattanooga Classic.
 
"The conditions were great today," head coach Mallory Kane said. "We felt prepared to shoot some low scores. We need to improve our par-5 play and some of our decision making. It's a quick turnaround before Indiana, so we will need to address these issues immediately. We welcome the challenge and look forward to competing again soon."
 
ODU posted a three-day total of 900, finishing 36-over on the par-72, 6,234-yard Council Fire Golf Club.
 
Federica Torre and Pilar Muguruza tied for 20th at 221 (+5) to lead the Monarchs. Muguruza birdied the second-to-last hole on Tuesday for a final-round 72. Muguruza matched her personal best 54-hole score in relation to par in the process and was 4-under on the course's par-4 holes, matching the best mark among the field. Torre's 42 total pars were tops at the tournament.
 
Jana Melichova carded a 76 on Tuesday to finish tied for 26th at 222 (+6). Elsie Verhoeven (T76th) and Leah Onosato (100th) rounded out the Monarchs lineup.
 
UTSA took home the team title at 5-under 869, one stroke ahead of North Florida. Central Arkansas finished third at 11-over.
 
Anne Chen of Duke won the individual competition by five shots, posting a 9-under 207. Kathryn Carson of East Carolina and Ana Gonzalez of UTSA tied for second at 4-under.
 
Competing as an individual at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia, Sarah Busey finished out with a final-round 79 to finish tied for 35th at 240 (+24).
