NORFOLK, Va. – The 48th-ranked Old Dominion men's tennis team will open Conference USA play on Wednesday afternoon hosting Rice at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
ODU (8-4) has won its last four matches and six of its last seven after a 4-3 win over Navy on Sunday morning. Luca Maldoner has the most wins in singles this spring with an 8-3 record, while Younes Lalami has six wins and Codie van Schalkwyk has five.
In doubles, the duo of Francois Le Tallec and van Schalkwyk have a 5-0 mark, while the tandem of Lalami and Oliver Nolan have three wins.
Rice (9-8) is on a Spring Break trip through Virginia having won 7-0 on Monday in Richmond. Trinity Gear leads the team in wins with 14, while Haoyuan Huang sports a 13-3 mark and has won nine matches in a row.
Old Dominion trails the all-time series 3-2 but won the last meeting in the 2021 C-USA quarterfinals 4-0 in Charlotte. Rice won the only meeting in Norfolk in 2008 by a 5-2 count.
The Monarchs are home for two matches this weekend with Penn on Saturday at 1 p.m., and another C-USA matchup with UAB on Sunday at 11 a.m.
