Melichova Goes Top-10 at Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Senior Jana Melichova of the Old Dominion women's golf team shot a 2-under-par score of 70 in the final round on Tuesday to finish tied for eighth at even-par 216 at the Briar's Creek Invitational.
 
The top-10 result is the 15th of Melichova's career. She posted back-to-back 73s at the par-72, 6,116-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek before the final round. The native of Pikovice, Czech Republic notched five total birdies on Tuesday after having just one in the first two rounds. She did lead the field with 43 total pars.
 
Leah Onosato shot a final-round 79 and finished tied for 64th at 230. Federica Torre placed in a tie for 66th, one shot behind Onosato, following a 74 on Tuesday.
 
Pilar Muguruza (T82, 235) and Sarah Busey (T90, 239) rounded out ODU's scoring five. Elsie Verhoeven competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 86th at 236.
 
No. 47 Campbell was the only team to finish under par, carding an 11-under 853 to win the team title. No. 11 Michigan finished second at even-par 864, and the host College of Charleston were third.
 
Boston College's Nathalie Irlbacher won individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 211 (-5). She edged four golfers who finished at 4-under 212.
 
The Monarchs return to action at the Chattanooga Classic March 27-29.
