NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 21-ranked Old Dominion baseball team finishes up a five-game home stand with a Tuesday game against East Carolina at 3 p.m. The game is streaming live on CUSA.tv.
 
Around the Horn
The Monarchs moved their win streak to 10 games with four wins last week. ODU toppled Princeton 15-5 last Tuesday behind five innings of one-run ball from Blake Morgan. The freshman left-hander struck out seven while allowing just one run on three hits. Chris Dengler went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four driven in against the Tigers.
 
Old Dominion then swept Stony Brook over the weekend. ODU won both ends of a doubleheader on Friday – 9-3 and 8-3 – crushing seven home runs in the process. Carter Trice hit a pair of two-run homers in the first game, and Tommy Bell added two solo shots as well. Matt Coutney and Robbie Petracci left the yard in the second game, starter Nick Pantos allowed one unearned run while striking out 11 over six innings and Noah Dean struck out five over 2.1 hitless frames.
 
The Monarchs wrapped up the sweep with an 18-6 triumph, hitting three more homers in the process.
 
Petracci leads ODU with a .361 batting average. Dengler is second at .350. Kenny Levari and Andy Garriola share the team lead with 18 RBIs. Garriola is also first on the team with five home runs.
 
ODU ranks 29th nationally with a .312 team batting average. The Monarchs also rank 19th in the country with a 2.55 team ERA. The Monarchs' 10 runs per game are the 12th-most in the nation.
 
Scouting East Carolina
The Pirates (9-7) have rebounded from a sweep by the hands of Bryant in the opening weekend, winning eight of their last 10 games. ECU took two games from St. Mary's over the weekend.
 
Jacob Jenkins-Cowart leads the team with a .422 average and is tied for third with nine RBIs. Alec Makarewicz paces the Pirates with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
 
Nick Logusch is expected to start on the mound for ECU. He is 0-2 with a 4.32 ERA in five appearances, two starts, this season. He has struck out 11 over 8.1 innings.
 
The Series
ODU is 33-30 all-time against its former conference rival. The Monarchs knocked off the 17th-ranked Pirates 6-5 in 12 innings last season. Kyle Battle hit a leadoff home run, Trice added a solo shot in the fourth and Andrea Dalatri provided the game-winning three-run homer in the top of the 12th.
 
What's Next
The Monarchs kick off Conference USA play with three games at Middle Tennessee Friday through Saturday.
