Men’s Golf Fourth after 36 Holes at Southern Invitational

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The Old Dominion men's golf team carded an even-par score of 288 in the afternoon to enter tomorrow's final round of the Southern Invitational in fourth place. ODU bounced back from an opening-round 294 on Monday morning with its best round of team golf in the spring season. Jakob Henriksson shot 71-71 on Monday and is tied for ninth.
 
Monday's second-round 288 is the first time the Monarchs shot par or better in 11 rounds this spring. Old Dominion posted a two-round score of 582 (+6) and sits 11 shots behind third-place James Madison (571, -5) and is three strokes ahead of fifth-place Xavier (585, +9).
 
Henriksson continued to find success at the par-72, 6,757 Falls Club. He logged eight total birdies on Monday for back-to-back 1-under 71s. The sophomore from Stockholm, Sweden was 3-over after four holes in the first round but quickly got back to red figures with four birdies over the next six holes. In five career rounds at The Falls Club, Henriksson has gone under par four times and has shot no worse than an even-par 72 in last year's final round.
 
Rasmus Konradsson is tied for 11th just one shot behind Henriksson. He opened with a 75 before bouncing back with the round of the day – a 4-under 68. Konradsson had nine total birdies on Monday, six in the second round, and eagled the 517-yard par-5 first in the opening round.
 
Gustav Fransson opened with an even-par 72 then shot 74 in the afternoon round. He is tied for 23rd at 2-over 146. Jakob Chicoyne is tied for 34th at 151. Kazuki Yamauchi is one stroke off of Chicoyne in a tie for 38th.
 
As a team, the Monarchs rank third in par-5 scoring at 11-under and were tied for the second-most pars (105). ODU tallied 32 birdies and two eagles on Monday. Henriksson was one of seven players to shoot under par on the par-3 holes (-1), and Konardsson ranked fifth in par-5 scoring (-5).
 
No. 37 Ohio State shot a tournament-best 277 in the second round and leads the team competition at 17-under 559. Florida Atlantic is second at 568 (-8).
 
The Buckeye's Maxwell Moldovan leads the individual leaderboard at 10-under 134. Belmont's Evan Davis (136) and FAU's Max Sturdza (138) round out the top-three.
 
The Southern Invitational concludes tomorrow.
