NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team ventured to New York for a pair of matches this weekend and came away with a split.  On Saturday, they dropped a 5-2 decision to Columbia and rebounded on Sunday to knock off St. John's 4-3.

Against the Red Storm of St. John's, the Monarchs took the doubles point by winning at the number two and three spots.  At number two, Francois Le Tallec and Younes Lalami scored a 6-3 win over Charlie James and Ryota Kaneda.  The tandem of Codie van Schalkwyk and Oliver Nolan clinched the point at number three by defeating Giuseppe DeCamelis and Carl Gustavsson 6-3.

In singles, the Monarchs won the first three matches to finish and clinched the match with a victory by Lalami at number four over Gustavsson 7-5, 6-4.  Luca Maldoner won at number two over Ignacio Garcia 6-2, 6-3, while Van Schalkwyk won 6-2, 6-4 over Udayan Bhakar at number five before Lalami's clincher.

In the match with Columbia, the Lions swept the doubles matches to take the team point.  In singles, ODU got wins at number three by Yevhen Sirous with a 6-1, 7-6 win over Ishaan Ravichander and number five with van Schalkwyk winning 6-4, 3-6, 3-2 over Austin Huang.

MUELLER ON WEEKEND
"It's nice to rebound from yesterday's match to get our first road win of the season.  Being away always throws some challenges at you and I think we played a clean dual match until 4-0.  We lost focus and energy for the dead matches and that's an opportunity to work on things we missed out on.  Credit to St. John's for fighting until the end.  I think we learned that we need to work on several things before our next match."
