LYNCHBURG, Va. – Old Dominion University women's swimming nearly set the school record in the 400 freestyle relay to highlight the final day of the C-USA Championships.
In the final event of the meet ODU finished fifth in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Webb, Dunworth, Summer Miln and Tara Enneking had a time of 3:24.80.
"I am so proud of these ladies for what they accomplished as a team this week," ODU head coach Jess Livsey said. "They were a presence both in the water and carried it through all four days of competition. I am very excited for the future of this young group."
The first event of the night was the 1650 freestyle as ODU was led byElin Kata Sigurgeirsdottir who placed sixth with a time of 17:11.43. Brynn Jewell placed 13th with a time of 17:25.47. Kinsey Rushevics took 19th in a time 17:52.80 and Sydnee Blackburn took 20th in 18:15.
Summer Sampson won the B-Final in the 200 backstroke to place 10th with a time of 2:00.86. Mary Dunworth added a 17th spot in a time of 2:07.54.
In the 100 freestyle, Laila Webb finished 11th in a time of 51.11. Summer Miln placed 16th in 51.59 and Miranda Byrne followed in 18th with a time of 52.25. Webb's time is the fifth fastest in school history.
Tara Enneking placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.00. The 200 breaststroke yielded another B-Final win as Martina Ciriesi finished in 2:18.78 to place 10th. Julia de Camargo Gusso added a 15th place finish in a time of 2:21.72.
In the 200 butterfly, Elin Kata Sigurgeirsdottir finished 18th with a time of 2:07.33.
ODU will take a team of qualified swimmers to the National Invitational Championship on March 10-12 which will take place in Elkhart, Indiana.
