NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team learned some good news on Wednesday afternoon as they earned a national ranking in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Coaches Poll coming in at 45th .
"The first rankings are a nice screenshot and validation of the hard work our guys put in so far. But the ranking we are working towards is the one in late April when the selection committee picks teams for the NCAA Tournament," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller.
ODU (4-4) played its last seven matches on the road after a season-opening win over Penn State. The Monarchs finished that stretch with a pair of matches in-state as they defeated William & Mary 4-1 and lost to Liberty 5-2.
Codie van Schalkwyk leads the team in singles wins this spring with a 5-3 record, while Luca Maldoner has four wins and the tandem of Francois Le Tallec and Oliver Nolan have three each.
After playing a seven-match road trip, the men are home for their next 11 matches starting on Saturday when they host Furman at 1 p.m. Old Dominion will then play host to Virginia Tech on Sunday at 11 a.m. Furman was ranked in a tie for 60th in the poll.
