AUBURN, Ala. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team started a three-match road swing this week by dropping a 6-1 decision to Auburn on Wednesday afternoon.

Francois Le Tallec, who entered the match ranked 64th nationally, recorded the lone point for the Monarchs with a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win over #47 Tyler Stice at number one singles.

"I couldn't be more proud of Francois. In his first match back after surgery, he beats a ranked SEC player on the road in straight sets. That result speaks for itself," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller

At number five singles, Codie van Schalkwyk took Finn Murgett to a third-set tie breaker but fell 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).  In doubles, the Tigers recorded the team point with wins at number one (6-2) and number three (6-4).

The Monarchs now head to Knoxville, Tennessee for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend with a Friday match against top-ranked Tennessee.

MUELLER ON AUBURN MATCH
A lot to learn from today's match. Auburn got on top of us early and we seemed surprised by their ball striking quality for some reason. I'm really proud how we competed and started making comebacks in the second sets, but by then the hole was too big.

Now we gotta shift gears and prepare for the best team in the country on Friday. If we learn from today's mistakes, I believe we can give them a tough match.
