NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team tied its first conference match 1-1 after double overtime on Saturday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.

"I was very, very pleased; I was very proud of my team. I thought we were a little naïve in the beginning of the game, first 20 minutes or so. Maybe we were unsure or maybe a little nervous. As the game grew, particularly in the second half, we played some really good football. I'm very proud of the effort and a very well-earned point in our league", said head coach Alan Dawson

Old Dominion (2-2-1, 0-0-1 C-USA) trailed early as Coastal Carolina scored in the first half. ODU came back to tie the match in the 58th minute of the game. Eamon McLaughlin found Eliot Goldthorp in the center of the field. Goldthorp with enough space would release a right-footed shot from outside the 18-yard box, getting ODU on the board.

CCU (2-1-3, 1-0-3 C-USA) found the goal in the 14th minute to get an early lead. Marcello Jones found Michael Fowler in the center of the 18-yard box. Fowler had enough space to take a right-footed shot and find the lower right corner of the net.

The Monarchs led in shots (18-10) and in corner kick opportunities (11-2), while the Chanticleers led in saves (6-4).

Dawson said, "Now it's time to look after our bodies, get some sleep, get proper nutrition and we'll start focusing on VCU come Monday".

Old Dominion will return to the ODU Soccer Complex on Tuesday night to play against VCU at 7 p.m.
