Hutchinson Receives Conference USA Spring Spirit of Service Award

IRVING, Texas – Senior Holly Hutchinson of the Old Dominion women's tennis team has been named ODU's recipient of the Conference USA Spring Spirit of Service Award, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. The award honors the league's student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport.
 
A past C-USA Spirit of Service Award recipient, Hutchinson was a nationally-ranked singles and doubles player this season, the Singles Player of the Conference USA Championship and a first team all-conference performer in singles and doubles. She clinched the Monarchs' first ever NCAA Tournament victory with an upset of No. 45-ranked Indianna Spink in the top singles flight as 29th-ranked Old Dominion topped No. 33 Arkansas by a 4-2 score.
 
Off the courts, Hutchinson has received the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award and the ITA Atlantic Regional Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award. The native of Middlesex, England is the Senator of the ODU SGA, a co-chair of the Life Skills and Diversity Committee within SAAC as well as the athletic department's Racial Equity Task Force. Additionally, Hutchinson has participated in numerous community service initiatives, including the Norfolk Public School Reading Campaign and the TeamUp mentoring program.
 
Hutchinson is equally accomplished in the classroom, where she holds a 3.95 grade-point average while pursuing a graduate degree in lifespan and digital communication media studies. She is a three-time recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and has been on the Dean's List and C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester.
