DALLAS – Freshman Jakob Henriksson has been named the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon.
Henriksson became the first Old Dominion men's golf freshman to win an event since April 2016 when he claimed medalist honors at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate on Tuesday. He carded a three-round total of 5-under 205 (66-72-67) to win by six strokes on the par-70, 6,799-yard Golden Horseshoe Gold Course. His opening-round 66 was the low round of the event.
The native of Stockholm, Sweden played the final four holes of the event without a driver due to an equipment malfunction. He notched three birdies over those final four holes – including one on the par-5, 634-yard 15th. For the event, Henriksson topped the field in par-5 scoring at 4-under. He also led the 88-person field with 14 total birdies and had the second-best mark on par 4s.
Paced by Henriksson, the Monarchs finished the event as runners-up, four shots behind VCU.
