NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team (1-0-2, 0-0-2 C-USA) remained unbeaten for the season after playing South Carolina (6-4-1, 0-1-1 C-USA) to a 1-1 double overtime draw on Sunday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless first half, the Monarchs struck in the 54th minute, when Ruben Pedersen fed Ettore Casadei for his second goal of the season.

The Gamecocks scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute off a penalty kick from Brian Banahan. The goal was Banahan's fourth of the season.

Old Dominion outshot South Carolina 10-7 in regulation and held a 3-2 advantage for corner kicks in the opening 90 minutes.

ODU's Djibril Doumbia made all three of his saves in the two overtime sessions to keep the match tied and ultimately earn a team point for the Monarchs.

"I thought we put together our best performance of the year and created some very good chances," explained ODU head coach Alan Dawson. "We are disappointed we were not able to secure all three points, but we are making progress as a young team."

The Monarchs again started eight freshman and three sophomores on Sunday.

ODU's defense has only allowed two goals in three matches (310 total minutes) so far this season.

Old Dominion will return to the pitch on Sunday, March 21, when the Monarchs welcome Florida Atlantic for an 11 a.m. start at the ODU Soccer Complex. Sunday's match will stream on CUSA.TV.
