BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Old Dominion field hockey sophomore Marlon de Bruijne earned more post-season recognition on Tuesday as she was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Third Team All-American squad.
"Marlon brings to the field a high level of focus and a fierce drive to score goals. The fact that she is recognized as an All-American, despite missing a large number of games, shows the impact she makes each time she steps out on the field," said ODU Head Coach Andrew Griffiths.
"It is exciting that she has only played one calendar year here, and still has tremendous growth ahead of her. I'm looking forward to seeing what she will do this spring and next season," he added.
In 13 games that de Bruijne (Den Bosch, Netherlands) played in, she had 12 goals (third in BIG EAST), four assists, 28 points (tied for third in BIG EAST) and four game-winners (second in BIG EAST).
She led the Monarchs in goals, points and game-winners this season, as well as shots (68) and shots on goal (37). In ODU's win over Quinnipiac, de Bruijne scored three goals. She was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week once this year and earned First Team All-Big East honors.
De Bruijne was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-South Region Team last month and just Monday was named Second Team All-American by Synapse Sports. After the Spring 2021 season she was named a Second Team NFHCA All-American.
