NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University Athletics mourns the loss of former women's basketball player and ODU Sports Hall of Famer Medina Dixon, who passed away on Monday.
Dixon helped lead Old Dominion to its third national championship in 1985 and was Sun Belt Player of the Year, a First Team Kodak All-American and a finalist for the Naismith Player of the Year award, averaging 16.4 points per game. The Monarchs also reached the 1983 Final Four with Dixon. She finished her career with 1,968 points and 979 rebounds and was inducted in to the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. Her No. 13 jersey was retired in 2011.
Dixon represented the United State on the national stage, winning gold at the 1990 FIBA World Championship. She was the top American scorer at the 1992 Olympics as the United States took home bronze.
