NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's soccer team enters the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 and will match up against No. 1 seed Duke, the NCAA announced on Monday evening.
Old Dominion will travel to Durham, North Carolina to face Duke on Friday, November 12 at 6 p.m.
ODU (13-4-1, 6-1-1 C-USA) has had a history-making season, winning both the Conference USA regular season and tournament championships. Old Dominion was the No. 1 East seed entering the tournament and beat UTSA 1-0 in the quarterfinals, Middle Tennessee 2-1 in the semifinals and Southern Miss 1-0 in the finals.
Emily Roberts received Defensive MVP while Carla Morich received Offensive MVP for the Tournament. Ece Turkoglu and Kasey Perry also received All-Tournament honors for their work.
Roberts was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Year, and Perry was named Goalkeeper of the Year. The two seniors were joined by Turkolgu on the All-Conference First Team. Morich and Gry Boe Thrysøe were named to the All-Conference Third Team. Thrysøe also made the All-Freshman Team. Head coach Angie Hind was named C-USA Coach of the Year setting a new single-mark for most wins in a season for her at ODU.
This season ODU had a six-game win streak and posted seven shutouts in its eight conference matches, conceding only one goal. Morich is leading ODU with five goals, six assists and 21 shots on goal. Perry reached a career-high nine shutouts while making 30 saves on 102 shots faced and ranks second nationally for goals against average (.408).
Duke (13-1-1, 7-2-1 ACC) most recently fell in the first round of the ACC Tournament 2-1 to Wake Forest. Michelle Cooper leads the Blue Devils offense with 10 goals, four assists, and 26 shots on goal. Cooper earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors and was joined by Tess Boade and Ruthie Jones on the All-ACC First Team while Sophie Jones earned second team honors.
