NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore Elsie Verhoeven of the Old Dominion women's golf team will represent Belgium in The Spirit International Amateur Championship presented by the Will Erwin Headache Research Foundation Nov. 4-6 at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. The event will be streamed on GolfChannel.com, the NBC Sports app and on TheSpiritGolf.com with a two-hour highlight show to air on Dec. 9 and 11 on the GOLF Channel.
The Spirit is a biennial competition drawing 80 competitors from 20 different countries across four continents. The 54-hole tournament features five concurrent competitions (overall team stroke play, women's team stroke play, men's team stroke play, women's individual stroke play and men's individual stroke play). The top three finishers in all five categories receive commemorative medals.
A native of Nethen, Belgium, Verhoeven has featured in 25 rounds across nine events in her two-year ODU career. She played in three of a possible four events this fall and posted a 77.89 stroke average. She concluded the fall season with a personal-best 54-hole score of 223 (+13) at the Evie Odom Invitational.
Joining Verhoeven on Team Belgium is Rebecca Becht, Matthis Besard and Louis Theys. The team captain is Leslie Cloots.
