NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion field hockey team is ranked No. 14 in the latest NCAA RPI, which were released earlier today. The Monarchs boast an 8-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark in BIG EAST play. ODU has claimed victory in eight of its last nine matches.
Of the 24 active ODU players, 18 are underclassmen from an eligibility standpoint, while 12 are freshmen. In Old Dominion's last match against Richmond on Sunday, the Monarchs started three freshmen and a sophomore in the midfield.
"This is a good start for us, and we have been able to learn some things and figure out some strengths as a team, while making some mistakes, but still finding ways to win," said ODU head coach Andrew Griffiths. "Our aim is high this year, so the second half of the season we will be working to improve our ranking."
Old Dominion has already taken down two nationally ranked teams on the road so far this season, as the Monarchs defeated No. 11 Virginia and No. 24 James Madison in September.
