NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion field hockey team will travel to Villanova for a Friday, October 1 match at 3 p.m. in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. The Monarchs will then return home to host Richmond on Sunday, October 3 at 12 p.m. Friday afternoon's match will stream on FloSports, while Sunday's game will stream on Monarch Media.
 
ODU is coming off a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at No. 11 Virginia, as the Monarchs scored two fourth quarter goals in a 1:43 span. The Monarchs have now won six of their last seven contests. Earlier this week, Marlon de Bruijne, Cam MacGillivray and Frederique Zandbergen swept the BIG EAST weekly honors, as de Bruijne was named Offensive Player of the Week, MacGillivray earned Defensive Player of the Week and Zandbergen garnered Freshman of the Week accolades.
 
No. 19 Old Dominion jumped up two spots in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. MacGillivray ranks 18th nationally for her 1.36 goals against average. de Bruijne ranks 20th in the NCAA for points per game with a 1.88 average, as she has scored four goals in the past two contests.
 
Villanova enters Friday's contest with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Wildcats are 4-2 when playing at home so far this season. Sophomore back Sabine de Ruijter leads Villanova in points (15), as well as goals (7). A season ago, Old Dominion won both matches against Villanova by a combined score of 11-1. The Wildcats were picked to finish sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
Richmond enters the weekend with a 2-7 record but is 2-1 in A-10 play. The Spiders will travel to Davidson for a Friday night match, before arriving in Norfolk for Sunday afternoon's game. Steffie Bongers has led the UR attack so far this season with three goals and four assists for 10 points. The Monarchs and Spiders last met during the 2018 season in Richmond, in a game Old Dominion won by a 2-1 score.
