ELON, N.C. – Oliver Nolan, Oliver Tobisch, Codie van Schalkwyk and Michael Walser of the Old Dominion men's tennis team wrapped up a successful Elon Invitational at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, as all four ODU players claimed at least one victory in singles and both doubles tandems finished the event with a 2-1 record.
The Elon Invitational marked the first collegiate matches for freshmen van Schalkwyk and Walser, as well as the first time Nolan put on an ODU uniform, as he transferred to Old Dominion from UNC Asheville. Tobisch is embarking on his junior season for the Monarchs.
"We got exactly what we were looking for this weekend," explained ODU associate head coach Othmane Lalami. "A lot of matches, competing hard and getting some solid wins. It was a great first tournament for the new guys and Oliver Tobisch, to get their feet wet and get going and they really showed a lot of promising things. We are looking forward to the rest of the fall tournaments as we continue on improving."
Nolan and van Schalkwyk rattled off two victories in the Gold Doubles Draw, before ultimately falling in the title match to North Carolina's Casey Kania/Mark Dillion by a 6-2 score.
After dropping their first match of the Maroon Doubles Draw, Tobisch/Walser went on to claim victory in their next two matches to finish the weekend with a winning record.
