NORFOLK, Va. - Senior Emily Roberts (Severn, Md.) of the Old Dominion women's soccer team was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, while teammate Kasey Perry (Dayton, Ohio) garnered C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week honors, league officials announced on Tuesday.
In Thursday's 2-0 away win against UTSA, Roberts was outstanding defending against a late onslaught from the home team, making two game winning challenges in front of the goal. On Sunday against UAB, she was key in allowing the Blazers to only one shot on goal throughout the game. This is Roberts and the ODU defense's third consecutive shutout and the captain's performance has helped put ODU on top of the league's East region standings.
Perry had an outstanding performance this weekend in goal, keeping ODU on a four-game winning streak and having her third shutout in a row. In Thursday evening's match at UTSA, she played a crucial role having to make five saves. On Sunday, she organized a defensive line that minimized UAB chances and resulted in another clean sheet for the Monarchs. Perry played a crucial part in ODU starting off with a perfect 2-0 record in conference play, which is the best conference start for ODU since 2017.
ODU will return to play taking on Middle Tennessee in its third Conference USA match. The Monarchs will travel to Middle Tennessee to play on Friday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
