NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team was unable to find the net, losing 2-0 against VCU on Tuesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.

"I'm disappointed. I think it was a pretty even game. The shots seemed even. The penalty kick changed the game a little bit. Then of course we had to get after them and throw the kitchen sink at them a little bit. I don't think we showed up with the energy we needed to win the game", said head coach Alan Dawson. "

The first half ODU and VCU remained scoreless regardless on numerous opportunities. VCU held the lead in shots, 8-6. ODU held the lead in corner kicks, 3-2. Both teams kept a clean sheet the first 45 minutes and recorded three saves.

VCU (4-2-1, 1-0-0 A-10) found the net at the 51st minute to break the tie, as Zach Sewell put away a right-footed penalty kick.

The Rams scored an insurance goal in the 88th minute of play after Ethan Manheim finished off of a rebounded shot from Damian Gallegos.

ODU (2-3-1, 0-0-1 C-USA) had several Monarchs on attack including Eliot Goldthorp who recorded four shots, one on goal. Ettore Casadei, Eamon McLaughlin, and Liam Fisch all walked off the pitch with three shots each.

Dawson said, "We have to really forget about this game quickly. The most important game of the season is coming up on Saturday night. It's a Conference USA show down with FAU so we can't dwell on this. We can't point fingers. We just have to move on and get ourselves positively prepared".

Old Dominion will head down to Boca Raton, Florida to take on FAU on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
