NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's soccer team returns to the ODU Soccer Complex to take on Costal Carolina at 7 p.m. in their first Conference USA game of the season.
Old Dominion (2-2-0) returned from Fairfax, Virginia with a 2-1 win over George Mason on Tuesday night. Owen Ruddy got the Monarchs on the board with an early goal off of a cross by Eli Carr. Josh Thacker followed up with a redirecting header off a free kick by Eliot Goldthorp giving ODU a 2-0 lead at the half. Djibril Doumbia recorded two saves and kept a shutout for almost 89 minutes of play.
The win was the 250th for Alan Dawson at Old Dominion.
Coastal Carolina (2-1-2, 1-0-2 C-USA) is coming off a 4-0 win over USC Upstate at home on Tuesday night. Emile Rzepecki capitalized in the first minutes of play off of a penalty kick. The Chanticleers increased their lead to 2-0 after Nicholas Itopoulos scored in the 16th minute of play. In the second half, Coastal Carolina scored two more goals courtesy of Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual and Marcello Jones in the 65th and 67th minutes of the game.
Coastal Carolina has played three conference matches already against No. 14 Kentucky (0-0), No. 7 Marshall (3-3), and South Carolina (4-1). This is Coastal Carolina's first year playing in the Conference USA league after leaving the Sun Belt Conference.
The last time ODU and Coastal Carolina played was in 2017 when the Monarchs fell 5-2 in Norfolk at the ODU Soccer Complex.
