NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Old Dominion field hockey team will put its four-match win streak on the line when the Monarchs travel to No. 16 UConn for the BIG EAST opener for both teams on Friday, September 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. Friday afternoon's match will stream on FloSports, which requires a paid subscription.

ODU is coming off a pair of victories over Longwood and VCU. Nicole Fredricks was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week after scoring the game-winning goal against Longwood with just 66 seconds remaining in regulation. Fredricks then helped anchor the Monarchs defense to a 3-0 shutout win at VCU.

"We need to take another step forward from the VCU match," said Fredricks. "Keeping it simple, doing what we know, working and sticking together as a team will hopefully get us a big win to start BIG EAST play."

The Monarchs currently rank 30th in the country and first in the BIG EAST for penalty corners taken per game (6.40). Delphine Le Jeune's 0.60 assists per contest ranks 32nd in the NCAA and second in the conference.

The Huskies, who are off losses to No. 3 Boston College and No. 16 Syracuse, are the nine-time reigning BIG EAST Tournament champions, and the two sides have squared off in the tournament final each of the past two seasons. UConn goalkeeper Cheyenne Sprecher ranks 12th in the nation and second in the BIG EAST with 6.33 saves per outing. The Huskies return NFHCA First Team All-American Jessica Dembrowski along with fellow graduate student and First Team All-BIG EAST honoree Kourtney Kennedy. UConn has advanced to the past 19 NCAA Tournaments.
