SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The Old Dominion women's soccer team won their first Conference USA game of the season, extending their winning streak to three after a 2-0 victory over UTSA at the Park West Complex on Thursday night.
Head coach Angie Hind said, "This was a big win for us. UTSA is a really tough team, so aggressive, and they get forward quickly so we had a lot to do defensively tonight, but dealt with the pressure really well and I think we will be better for it".
ODU (5-2-0, 1-0-0 C-USA) came out early and got a goal on the board just 10 minutes into the match. Morgan Hall crashed the net connecting with a cross from Megan Watts allowing ODU to take control of the game early.
The Monarchs continued to play aggressive getting an insurance goal just three minutes into the second half. Carla Morich sent a cross in from the left corner of the field, finding Emily Garrick waiting in the 18-yard box to finish.
Kasey Perry recorded five saves in her 90 minutes of play and earned her second clean sheet of the season.
UTSA (5-3-1, 0-1-0 C-USA) fired 18 shots, five shots on goal, and played off of four corner kicks. Ellis Patterson led the Roadrunners in their attack taking five shots.
"The two goals we scored were moments of great composure, quality crosses and great finishes. I was so pleased with the desire both Morgan and Emily showed to finish those chances. To come all the way here and get the win to kick off the conference is huge for us", Hind said.
The Monarchs will return to the ODU Soccer Complex to take on UAB Sunday, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m.
