Women’s Lacrosse Drops Home Conference Match with No. 9 Florida, 17-6

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team lost 17-6 to No. 9 Florida in an American Athletic Conference matchup on Friday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
 
Lilly Siskind led the Monarchs (3-13, 1-8 American) with three goals for her fifth hat trick of the season and the second one in three games. The attacker from West Chester, Pennsylvania now has a career-high 30 goals this season.
 
The Gators (12-2, 9-0), the 2021 AAC regular season champions, opened the game on a 4-0 scoring run over the first 11:30 of play. Siskind got ODU on the board with an unassisted tally at the 15:23 mark, but Florida tacked on three more goals. Olivia Tanneberger scored her fifth of the season just inside the five-minute mark to make the score 7-2. From there, the Gators closed out the half with two more goals.
 
UF opened the second half on another 4-0 run, including three straight from the stick of Brianna Harris. Siskind notched her second of the game with 19:22 to go to make the score 13-3. The Gators built their largest lead of the game with another 4-0 run, but the Monarchs closed out the game with three unanswered.
 
Defensively, ODU kept Florida off the board for the final 8:38 of the game. Caroline Shaefer scored from a free position shot with 5:57 to go. Just over three minutes later, Siskind completed her hat trick, and Moira Olexa found the back of the net on another eight-meter opportunity in the closing seconds of the game.
 
Lauren Carey snared four ground balls to share the game high and now has 43 this season to lead the team. Jenna Peccia and Maria Rekus chipped in three ground balls each, and Amber Stieve had a pair. Carey also shared the team-high in caused turnovers (two) with Siskind.
 
Four Monarchs registered two draw controls apiece on Friday. Shaefer had a pair to boost her season tally to 46 – tied with Katie Veneziale for the sixth-most in a single season at ODU. 
 
Peccia started the game in goal for the Monarchs and made 11 saves.
 
Harris led all participants with five goals and seven points. Shannon Kavanagh scored four times for the Gators and added four ground balls and three draw controls. Starting goalkeeper Sarah Reznick recorded nine saves.
 
The two teams wrap up the regular season on Sunday at 10 a.m. Prior to the game, the Monarchs will recognize Lindsay Baer, Madison Corcoran, Brooke Frey, Heather Higgins, Isabelle O'Connell and Kortner Parker on Senior Day.
